Why isn’t my gel manicure curing properly?

There could be several reasons why your gel manicure is not curing properly. Here are a few possible explanations:

1. Incorrect application: Gel polish requires precise application techniques. If the layers are too thick or unevenly applied, the UV or LED light may not be able to penetrate and cure the polish properly. This is especially true for colors such as white and black. It is crucial to follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer carefully. Make sure you are applying thin, even layers of gel polish and avoiding any contact with your skin or cuticles. If the layers are too thick or uneven, the curing process may not be effective.

2. Old or expired products: Gel polish has a shelf life, and using expired or old products can affect the curing process. Make sure to check the expiration dates on your gel polish and replace any products that are past their prime. Furthermore, over time gel polishes can become thick and gloopy, making it difficult for them to cure properly. If you have had the polish for a while, it might be worth considering purchasing a fresh bottle.

3. Insufficient curing time: Gel polish requires a specific amount of time under the UV or LED lamp to cure properly. If you are not allowing enough time for each layer to cure, the polish may remain tacky or not fully harden. Always follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer carefully. Double-check the recommended curing time for the specific brand you are using and ensure that you are giving it enough time under the lamp.

4. Inadequate lamp strength: Different gel polishes require different levels of UV or LED light intensity to cure properly. If your lamp is not strong enough or is not compatible with the gel polish you are using, it may not cure properly. Aim to pair the UV / LED nail lamp recommended by the gel brand you are using or use the most. Or find a good nail lamp with a reflective bottom. You may also DIY a reflective bottom using a mirror, metallic surface, or aluminum foil.

5. Contamination: Any oils, lotions, or debris on the nail surface can interfere with the curing process. Make sure to thoroughly clean and dehydrate your nails before applying gel polish to avoid contamination.

If you have tried all these suggestions and are still experiencing issues with your gel curing properly, it may be best to consult the gel brand you are using. They can assess the situation and provide you with expert advice or assistance to ensure your gel manicure perfectly cures.
